Google Chromecast1INTERNET GIANT Google's HDMI dongle, Google Chromecast, reportedly will go on sale in the UK on Wednesday 19 March.

At South by Southwest (SXSW) last week, Google said that its Chromecast will start shipping internationally in March, but it didn't cough on specific UK release details.

However, thanks to a loose-lipped Currys or PC World employee, we now know that the Chromecast is about to arrive on UK shelves. The staffer posted a picture on Twitter of Google Chromecast retail boxes on Monday, a tweet that has since been deleted.

While the staffer didn't name a release date, a leaked memo from Dixons obtained by the Android Police website quoted a 19 March release date for the gadget.

While we know that Currys and PC World will be selling the Chromecast, it's unclear whether it will also go on sale at the Google Play store. The dongle's UK price remains a mystery too, but it likely will fetch around the £30, as the Chromecast sells for $35 in the US. That said, Amazon listed the device last year for £59.99.

A UK release will see Google's Chromecast further challenge the Apple TV and Roku's recently announced Streaming Stick. Much like Roku's latest device, Google's Chromecast plugs into the back of a HDMI enabled TV and offers access to streaming services such as Netflix and Youtube.

Those with Android devices will also be able to use the gadgets to send video content to their televisions by connecting both devices to the same WiFi network and hitting the "Chromecast" button on their Android smartphone or tablet.

Google has yet to comment on the speculation. µ
